| The Behavioral Medicine
Center at Princeton Community Hospital is a 24-bed acute care psychiatric
inpatient unit. Assessment and treatment of psychiatric, behavioral and
interpersonal problems is provided through a transdisciplinary treatment
team including psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, psychiatric
nurses, activities and physical therapists and licensed counselors.
Clinical supervision, leadership and oversight of the clinical process is
provided by the Clinical Director, Philip Robertson, M.D., who is board
certified in psychiatry. Treatment Program: Patients admitted are expected to participate in a daily program of active treatment involving pharmacological intervention, individual and group therapies, activities therapy, educational groups and recreational therapies. Marital and family counseling are provided as appropriate. Arrangements are made for chemically dependent patients to attend Alcoholics Anonymous and/or Narcotics Anonymous, and patients may be referred to rehabilitation programs. Treatment planning is individualized within the limits of available resources. A major focus of the treatment program is to provide for the physical and emotional safety of patients admitted. The unit is locked to ensure patient safety and confidentiality. Patients dress in street clothes and are encouraged to provide a basic level of self-care. Patients are encouraged to have visitors during regular visiting hours. Confidentiality of treatment is considered very important. Patients who require extensive medical nursing care and extensive personal care are not usually candidates for admission. Medicare regulations prevent the admission of patients with significant medical problems. Oxygen, suction and I.V. therapy are not routinely available.
